The zone should have an away message or something so that people know that you're coming back and not ignoring them.

hmmm, how would that work?

the only thing i could think of, is for the person to set there own status

it's there you have the chance to set your status to say you're away, people can see that either in the combo box, or on the page telling you where each user is on the site. It will obviously only work for a limited time until you drop off the list, due to the way the site handles idle users.

there would just be a link at the bottom of the page that could just put a [a] next to your name or something so people new.

Yes, try /status away

Post 6 by TylerK (This site is so "educational") on Monday, 12-Mar-2007 17:18:53

The only drawback, as Kev mentioned, is that it will only work for 5 min 0 sec--after that, you're off the list.

How long would the away function work?

I can't seem to unset my status.

I was just wondering is this for standard users? How do I access this feature? I was thinking about the away message thing on Aim! I thought that's what the person who created this topic meant something like that you know! I'm glad to see the Zone has such a thing in place!

Post 10 by blbobby (Ooo you're gona like this!) on Tuesday, 13-Mar-2007 6:17:39

Yeah you are right, I don't think once set the status can be unset. Looks like the best you can do is to set it to something different like "here".

However, once you log off it will go away.

ah ya. i forgot about that bug. I'll work on a fix.

Post 12 by Selena Fan (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 14-Mar-2007 8:34:24

Do you get to type your own away messages in it! You know like aim? Like I'm on the phone or something like that? Now what's wrong with this thing? What kind of a bug does it have?

Post 13 by maddog (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Wednesday, 14-Mar-2007 20:02:42

sure you can type your own away message. You can just type /status Out to lunch or something, or /status on the phone. It's completely up to you what you want to type in as your status, but J is right...we still don't have a way to clear the status...J, you might wana consider the command /clearstatus? I think that'd probably be the best way to do it.

Thank you Mad Dog for answering my question! I'll be sure to use this feature.

I agree that there should be a tag next to the person on the main list like there is when someone is a newbee. I doubt most people look down the combo box to see if people are away or not.

Post 16 by Selena Fan (Account disabled) on Saturday, 17-Mar-2007 20:12:43

Lol Miah you got that right! I never look down the combo box! So it would be nice to have something by the user's name! Like when they're a newbee!

Post 17 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Monday, 19-Mar-2007 19:39:10

I thought of doing this, but that would add a bunch of clutter and then people would ask for it as an option or want to hide it. Not saying it won't happen, though.
As for you dropping off the list after 5 minutes, consider Quicknote console. You could turn off public notes and have the page sit there while you receive private ones. This would probably keep you logged in longer and show your status.

Cool anything works for me! I hope it becomes a reality though! Any way what ever happens just keep up the good work!

Post 19 by blbobby (Ooo you're gona like this!) on Tuesday, 20-Mar-2007 9:40:11

I, too, would like to see the status messages in the list of users logged on.

Hey, I like the idea about turning on quicknote console with only private messages turned on.
What if you forgot to come back, though? Would you be logged on eternally?
